Design and inspiration
How I grow as a jewellery designer and maker
My art jewellery designs begin with an idea or moment of inspiration. I reflect on this idea and develop a narrative around it. I then sketch my ideas, and begin to think about how to create the piece of jewellery. There are some tricky considerations when working with silver, so the design process involves logically thinking these through and some trial and error along the way!
Each piece of jewellery is like a little sculpture, art you can wear! That's why I love to create each piece one by one - so they are all slightly different. I also love to design pieces that evoke special memories of people, holidays or memorable days. These one-off pieces are very special and are for memories that will last a lifetime.
I have undertaken several terms of training at the wonderful Nottingham Jewellery School to become a silversmith, designing and crafting a range of jewellery pieces. I set up a window display to take part in Belper Arts Trail in May this year.
